The Quincy Memorial Park Veteran's Memorial Monument was unveiled in a dedication ceremony that took place on the 25th of May 2015. The main panel features an Eagle, an American Flag, Military Insignia, and the inscription, “Lest We Forget”.
Designed by Harrison Monuments, Quincy, IL, the black granite Monument was initially designed to be a one panel monument, however, due to the overwhelming number of Veteran requests to be added to the monument, two panels were added to accommodate all the names. Initially the three panels were inscribed with the names of 160 Veterans. Charlie Martin, lead designer for Harrison Monuments, told the Herald Whig, he designed the monument with a “perpetual” concept in mind so panels can seamlessly be added as needed. Since it's installation in 2015, a fourth panel has been added and as of 2023 there are a total of over 350 names inscribed on the panels.
The Veteran’s Memorial Monument was added to the cemetery grounds to stand for and honor ALL Vets and as such a deceased Veteran does NOT have to be interred in the Quincy Memorial Park cemetery, to have their name added to the monument. Any Veteran, yourself, a loved one, living or deceased, that has served and protected the citizens of these United States in any branch of the Military is eligible to be added to the monument, regardless of final resting place.
